the beech family includes many forest-important trees that significantly contribute to the production of quality timber within broadleaf trees
the leaves are simple, arranged alternately, and can be deciduous or evergreen
the trees are monoecious, and flowers are unisexual:
♂ - in catkins
♀ - sit in a cup-shaped flower cup
the fruit is a nut in a cup - within a cup-like husk
he family includes 6 genera with several hundred species
in Slovakia, there are two native genera:
genus Fagus (beech)
genus Quercus (oak)
in addition to these two genera, in the warmer regions of Slovakia, there is also one representative of a non-native genus, the chestnut (Castanea) - sweet chestnut (Castanea sativa).
