Habitus

it is a small, relatively densely branched shrub growing to a height of 1 - 1.5 m
bark is reddish brown, later grey-brown to dark grey

Leaves (assimilation organs)

the leaves are simple, linear-lanceolate, relatively stiff (leathery), persistent, entire margin, 20 - 40 x 3 - 6 mm large
the leaf margin is rolled up
the upper side is dark green
the lower side of the leaves is rusty hairy

Flowers

flowers are bisexual, white, grouped in umbels at the ends of branches, fragrant
it blooms from May to June

the fruit is a dry, 5-celled, 6 - 8 mm long, brown, rusty-hairy capsule
it ripens in X - XI

Extension

it was originally widespread throughout the northern hemisphere in taiga, tundra and forest-tundra on peat bogs
in Slovakia it is very rare, growing in the Western Beskydy Mountains, Veľká Fatra, High Tatras, Rojkov peat bog
