Extension

  • originally in Southeast Europe, Caucasus, Asia Minor
  • in Slovakia, it occurs only as a cultivated species in parks and arboretums

Ecology

  • it is a low-maintenance tree, resistant to drought, higher temperatures, and frost

Significance

  • it is a park ornamental tree and fruit-bearing tree
  • it provides quality wood for furniture and veneer production
  • in the past, pipes were made from the wood of the Turkish hazel
