Habitus

it is a hrub, rarely tree 5 - 8 m tall, sparsely branched
branches are straight, bark is smooth, greenish-brown, only shallowly cracked in older age (cracks are yellowish)
lenticels are weakly protruding, yellowish

buds are spirally arranged, ovoid, obtuse
integumentary scales are green to reddish, densely silvery tomentose

Shoots

shoots are round, greenish-grey, white tomentose, later glabrous
brachyblasts are numerous, relatively long, ringed and bumpy

Leaves (assimilation organs)

the leaves are palmately compound, three-lobed
individual leaves are elliptic at the base, cuneate at the tip, bristle-pointed, entire margin, 6 - 8 x 2 - 4 cm large
the upper side is dark green, dull, the lower side is greyish green, white-hairy
the petiole is 3 - 6 cm long

Flowers

it is a monoecious tree, flowers are bisexual, bright yellow, arranged in 20 - 30 cm long hanging racemes (golden rain)
it blooms in May - June, simultaneously with, or shortly after the leaves develop

Fruits – seeds

the fruit is a flat pod, slightly curved like a sickle, 5 - 8 cm long, silky hairy before ripening
the pod is brown when ripe, it contains several 5 x 4 mm large, dark brown, shiny, kidney-shaped seeds
it ripens in IX – X
