Habitus
it is a shrub up to 2 m high, without thorns !
branches are relatively thick
Leaves (assimilation organs)
the leaves are simple, palmately 3-5 lobed, the lobes are pointed, coarsely toothed along the margin
the leaves are basically round in shape, about 10 cm large, softly hairy on the underside
the petiole is up to 10 cm long (longer than the blade !)

the tree (shrub) is monoecious
flowers are bisexual, pale pinkish-reddish in drooping racemes
Fruits – seeds
the fruit is a spherical, bright red berry, sour!
Extension
in shady mountain forests of Europe
in Slovakia in higher mountain locations
it rises up to 1,700 m above the sea level (into the dwarf pine zone - Pinus mugo)
Ecology
it is a woody plant, more demanding on soil moisture and nutrients
Significance
it is a fruit-bearing tree (shrub)
it is one of the parent species of garden currants!
